At the heart of this story stands László András, a historian turned winemaker whose lifelong passion for grape varieties and ancient viticulture led him to the foothills of Somló nearly two decades ago. With a researcher’s precision and an artisan’s heart, László has spent the last 15 years cultivating rare and near-extinct vine types once believed lost to time. His work is more than winemaking – it’s viticultural restoration.

A cornerstone of this effort traces back to the pioneering work of Márton Németh, a world-renowned ampelographer who, between the 1950s and 1970s, built a genetic treasure trove of Carpathian Basin grape varieties at the Viticulture and Oenology Research Institute in Pécs. The collection, still carefully maintained today, includes ancient cultivars long thought to be extinct. From this living archive, László sourced propagation material to create grafted vines – now planted in the soils of Somló. His goal? To reintroduce these forgotten grapes into public cultivation and rediscover their true potential, both agriculturally and oenologically.

But heritage needs a future. And this is where Tibor Mohos, owner of the Hungarian IT company Telcotrend, enters the picture.

What began six years ago as a personal quest to find exquisite wine – the kind that tells a story in every sip – quickly turned into a partnership founded on shared values. When Tibor first tasted Somló Kincse, he recognized in László’s craft the very same pillars upon which he built his business: exclusiveness, heritage, and craftsmanship. It was only natural that the two men would eventually join forces, bringing Somló Kincse into the Telcotrend family as a reflection of their collective belief that innovation must always honor tradition.

Today, Somló Kincse stands as a testament to what happens when passion and purpose align. László continues to tend the vines daily, rejecting chemicals and additives in favor of natural, time-honored methods. His hands carry the memory of each plant, each season, each battle with the elements.
